Southbound portion of Quirino Bridge II now open

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the rehabilitation and strengthening of the southbound portion of Quirino Bridge II in Paco, Manila which was closed for reconstruction in May 2018 to allow the construction of the northbound portion.

DPWH Secretary Mark A. Villar, together with DPWH-National Capital Region (DPWH-NCR) Director Melvin B. Navarro led on Thursday, October 4, 2018 the re-opening to vehicular traffic of the southbound direction of Quirino Bridge 2.

According to DPWH-NCR Director Navarro, the southbound portion of the new Quirino Bridge is a single span road measuring 27.04 meters with 8 pieces type-4 prestressed concrete girders, three (3) lanes measuring 3.5-meter wide each, and a one (1) meter wide sidewalk. It also has eight (8) bored piles, divided into four (4) abutment each.

“Being part of the President Quirino Avenue which is one of the major thoroughfares in Manila, it is important for us to finish the reconstruction of Quirino Bridge II in time for the busy traffic during this last quarter of the year” said Secretary Mark Villar.

The Quirino Bridge is part of the Circumferential Road II which makes it a vital link to the cities of Manila, Pasay, Makati and the rest of central and eastern side of Metro Manila such as the cities of Quezon, Mandaluyong, Pasig, San Juan and Marikina, as well as the province of Rizal.
