For the past year, the majority of Filipinos have been stuck in their homes coping with the pandemic. But now that the country is already in the middle of vaccinations (no matter how slow the pace), there could be slightly more room for daydreams and maybe even actual plans of flying overseas for a short vacation in beautiful resorts or hotels to try and shake off even just a bit of the stress and frustration caused by more than a year of lockdowns. Aside from the designs unique to each country, the resorts and hotels featured here are high-class accommodations from all over the world that are praised for having luxuriously designed rooms that are beautiful enough to melt away thoughts of reality.
Amanpulo is one of Aman’s luxury resorts set on a private island in Northern Palawan. It has luxurious villas that have up to four bedrooms, a private pool, and even luxury service from private butlers and chefs, and casitas tucked either into the island’s forest, hillside, or the beach. These structures seamlessly pull the outdoors and indoors together and are designed with elements like broad and warm-paletted wooden decks that balance out the pebble-washed walls. Amanpulo also has a beach club on the western side of the Pamalican island where guests can enjoy Mediterranean cuisine and live seafood.
2. Saint Francesc Hotel
Formerly the mansion of the Alomar family (famous for earning money from their sugar-cane plantation in Puerto Rico), the Saint Francesc Hotel combines modern and Italianate architecture that portrays elegance, comfort, and artistry through restored, ornate details of the historical residence. Its Majorcan courtyard, in particular, serves as the meeting place for guests and visitors and extends to the lobby bar where one can also enjoy drinks in a tranquil space.
3. Villa Massilia
Found in Semniyak and only a few steps away from Seminyak Beach, Villa Massilia is an estate that features three villas that each have their own swimming pool and a total of ten bedrooms furnished with luxurious king-sized beds. Featuring teak, terrazzo interiors, the estate flaunts a restored Balinese alang-alang (grass roof) to give it a traditional ambiance while its interiors house decor from Bali, Java, and Borneo.
4. Vipp Hotel
Vipp rooms are structures mostly based on the idea of self-service. A very untraditional hotel, Vipp hotels offer uniquely designed rooms in different destinations. So far, these rooms can be found in Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. Furnished with the basic bathroom, bedroom, mini-bar, and kitchen, Vipp rooms are the best options for those who take solo traveling to the next level of solitude.
5. Olea All Suite Hotel
A resort containing 93 suites, Olea All Suite Hotel is the peak of luxury resort living when in Greece. Aside from its beautiful contemporary style architecture, the resort is surrounded by Zykanthos’ romantic views of olive trees, sandy beaches, and even a view fo the nearby village. It has several types of suites but the Superior Water Suite Swim Up, in particular, deserves a special mention for its contemporary Mediterranean design surrounded by water and direct access to the main pool.
Regardless of whether or not these hotels and resorts can be possible future travel goals in the itinerary, these five accommodations certainly are beautiful structures that magnify the relaxing effect that beautiful and culturally themed architecture can have on one’s mind and mood.
