In a few weeks, Marc Aran Reyes, together with Art Underground Manila, will release his long-awaited book, entitled “Between Shadow and the Soul,” which will feature all his exhibitions of meticulously painted works that emanate quietness and tranquility. The highlight of the 178-paged book is Mr. Scarecrow, a stunning piece from his Art Central Hong Kong 2019 exhibit. His 2021 masterpiece entitled “Serene” will be part of Leon Gallery’s Magnificent September Auctions.
Reyes’ hyperrealistic oil paintings show a world where realism dances with emotions and calmness. They continue to offer a paramount use of a modern palette consisting of copious white, grey, and black shades but show an inclination to classical techniques such as layering and chiaroscuro. His visuals have negative spaces that somehow represent silent, slow, tranquil emotions that propound both pictorial depth and motion through time. The outcome in Marc Aran Reyes’ oil paintings is aesthetically meditative.
