Almost twenty years ago the development of Bonifacio Global City has started. A rich center of commerce that began with towering office skyscrapers, followed by a boost of commercial establishments with a wide variety of dining establishments, shopping malls, entertainment hubs, and green parks. Not only a conducive place to work and play, but more so a great place to live, having quick access to all one’s basic necessities. Behind the great architecture, accessibility, and activity, BGC is a successful union of the human spirit and great ideas.

Currently, Bonifacio Global City is home to 20,000 households. With this, the city upholds its commitment to making the welfare of its residents a top priority. One of the concerns that need to be addressed is the growing noise pollution in the area especially in the wee hours of the night. Reasonable complaints about disturbing noises coming from two or four-wheeled vehicles have been constantly surfacing. Because of this, BGC has decided to put certain solutions into concrete actions.

Recently, BGC declared on their Facebook Page, that the city will be implementing a 12-hour Quiet Zone daily, which will run from 8:00 pm to 8:00 am. This is to serve as a gentle reminder to all vehicle owners, both two and four-wheeled vehicles to practice respect at all times. Of course, it’s not about discouraging the income-generating night entertainment industry in the area, but about being more mindful of the entire community as well. And as a constant reminder, signages are spread out all over the estate, and marshals are also deployed to help implement the new policy.

Not taking the situation lightly, Bonifacio Global City has also tapped and is in close coordination with the City Government of Taguig and Barangay Fort Bonifacio to further elevate the strict implementation of the policy. The government bodies are now currently working on an official ordinance to regulate the unnecessary noise the residents are dealing with on a daily basis.

As the post’s comments show, the BGC community has shown its greatest support and appreciation for the steps taken to address this issue. And may this kind of policy and action be an example to other parts of the metro to further alleviate pollution problems, not only noise but the also the unnecessary carbon footprints taken on such scenarios.
