MEGA Ball at The Pen

The Peninsula Manila, also known as The Pen or The Manila Pen, is known as the “Jewel in the Capital Crown” for its legendary presence in the heart of the Philippines’ primary business district. For locals and visitors from around the world, it is a luxurious haven of comfort and fine cuisine.

The architectural design of the Peninsula was done by the celebrated Philippine Architect Gabriel Formoso, together with Honolulu-based firm of Wimberly, Whisenand, Allison, Tong and Goo as the consulting architects. Formoso was one of the country’s most esteemed architects during the time of the hotel’s construction. His notable works include the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas Complex, Metropolitan Museum of Manila, and the Asian Institute of Management.

Like his other edifices, the Peninsula is distinguished by its bush hammer finish and exposed concrete aggregate façade. The brutalist design, however, is softened by a lush tropical feel with lots of tall plants and cozy furniture featured in the interior.

Among the hotels in Manila, the lobby of the Peninsula is one of the most iconic and scenic lobbies one can find. The hotel also features elegant public areas that complement its 469 guest rooms infused with “Timeless Filipino” elements, such as capiz shell, crushed coconut panels, and native woods.

Tonight, the Peninsula is glammed up for the MEGA Ball: Fashion and Art. Isidro explains that Manila Pen is considered as one the landmark venues in Manila because of its history and heritage. In line with the ball’s theme, guests will get to see curated works from chosen master artists. The main event will be held at Rigodon Ballroom while the after party will be at Salon de Ning.

Apart from celebrities and fashion designers, several architects and interior designer are in attendance of the event, including Anthony Nazareno and Chris Guerrero of Nazareno + Guerrero Design Consultancy, Carlo Calma, and Trisha Calma, among others.

With Sheila Romero as co-chair, the MEGA Ball has several exhibits in the venue, displaying the works of Filipino artists, including Jinggoy Buensuceso, Nice Buenaventura, Lilianna Manahan, Demi Padua, Marc Aran Reyes, Ayka Go, and more.
