Francisco ‘Bobby’ Mañosa Named as New National Artist in Architecture

After having numerous outstanding contributions in the field of Architecture, Francisco ‘Bobby’ Mañosa was finally named as New National Artist in Architecture.

According to the official gazette of the Philippines, a National Artist is a Filipino citizen who has been given the rank and title of National Artist in recognition of his or her significant contributions to the development of Philippine arts and letters.

The rank and title of National Artist is conferred by means of a Presidential Proclamation. It recognizes excellence in the fields of Music, Dance, Theater, Visual Arts, Literature, Film and Broadcast Arts, and Architecture or Allied Arts.

Bobby Mañosa is a Filipino architect known for his advocacy of promoting and upholding the Filipino architecture for his whole 40 years of practice.

A Facebook post on Monday was posted by Philippine Institute of Architect, applauding the Architect’s long overdue achievement.

Further details about the announcement of Francisco ‘Bobby’Mañosa being awarded as New National Artist in Architecture have yet to be announced.

Bobby Mañosa is truly an inspiration to all architects especially those who practice and uphold the values of Filipino Architecture. All his profound contributions are still being utilized up to now.

In an exclusive interview with Bluprint, Arch. Bobby’s son Gelo Mañosa shared that his father was once offered to do a retirement village for Japanese retirees. However, there was only one condition, it had to be Japanese architecture. Arch. Bobby Mañosa refused for his love for the Filipino Architecture is unyielding.

“Please understand that my conscience will never allow me to design anything but Filipino.”
