Designer Xiaoxi Xiong creates FNJI’s new office in Beijing, China. The furniture brand’s new headquarters has a cozied-up futuristic interior inspired by a sci-fi movie. The 1000 square meter office space features a color scheme of soft gray that exudes a futuristic vibe, complemented by plaster walls and rounded elements. The result of the successful collaboration between lead designer Xiong and the FNJI design team is a well-curated built environment that aims to transform the way people work.

“Regulations may not be able to change people, but the environment does.”

Guqi Gao, FNJI Founder & Art Director,

The search for a new office was concluded when the team located space on the top floor of the Qianlima International Building in Shunyi, Beijing. The area’s attractiveness was enhanced by the abundance of natural light and a two-tiered floor, which could be arranged at will. The team of designers created a two-story loft and divided the space into more than 10 reasonably separate offices, meeting rooms, common areas, and leisure zones. These functional divisions enable the studio’s staff to establish a balance between work and recreation.

Soft gray gypsum plaster, chosen for its matte appearance, has been applied to nearly every surface in the office, including the floors. Two textured walls created by pouring semi-solidified gypsum over jumbled piles of shattered bricks are an intriguing visual element on the lower floor. Nature is incorporated into the office through the floor-to-ceiling windows that invite organic light to create a play of shadows in the areas. Installing semi-transparent drapes that function as light filters softens the sunlight, which can sometimes be too harsh. The circular support column diffuses the edges of light that passes through it. Soft light and shadows create a visual experience by making everything appear to be related.

Additionally, a few designated plant areas also double as dining tables. Having a meal under the plants is a further allusion to a science fiction film that inspired the design. The spiral staircase is enlivened by the addition of an arc-shaped railing with an organic texture that reveals the clay’s personality. The alteration of multidimensional curved surfaces invigorates the whole environment. The team ensured that the monochromatic theme was enhanced by minute touches. Certain zones are adorned with pops of color to contrast the gray tones.

The designers of FNJI embodied futurism with warmth and ultimately produced such a space. The company desires a futuristic environment that is liberated, efficient, and full of enthusiasm while maintaining a connection to nature. The office’s futuristic style symbolizes the team’s pursuit of innovative ideas and clearly establishes their continued relevance as time passes.
