Gaan Redefines Plant Shopping in Manila - BluPrint

Gaan adds a new dimension to your plant shopping experience with a beautiful greenhouse, where plants and plant lovers alike have put down roots.

COVID-19 has changed the way that people interact with plants and the plant industry. It has paved the way for a plantdemic where people got hooked on plant shopping and home gardening during the lockdown period.

Driving along the White Plains side of Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City, one shop definitely stands out among the rows of fascinating flora on display. Gaan’s geometric glass facade elicits curiosity for the well-curated selection of rare plants that flourish within the greenhouse’s warmth.

“Gaan” in Ilonggo means to give. Meanwhile, “Gaan” means lightness and coziness in Tagalog. For the owners, Gaan is a gift that cultivates growth and beauty. They decided to open Gaan, which aims to build a community for people whose passions include growing, producing, or curating beautiful things from the natural soil.

Of course, plant shopping isn’t complete without a selection of plant pots in different shapes, styles, and colors. Further in, you are led to a small wooden cabin that elevates plant admiration and showcases special concrete, terra cotta, and ceramic pots made by local artisans. Gaan puts the spotlight on local artisans, whose designs bring out the singular beauty in every plant. Just last month, Gaan collaborated with ceramicist Catherine Choachuy to produce a unique 12-piece ceramic pot collection called Blooms inspired by floral colors that celebrate freedom.

The owners believe that choosing a pot for a plant is like choosing a frame for an artwork, and inside Gaan’s wood cabin, you can select beautiful and unique vessels for your plants. This process is vital as the pot can make or break a plant’s healthy growth and condition.
