Daniel Lampa stretches beyond his weekly round-ups to share a very interesting coffee shop in Makati for all the coffee enthusiasts out there. Most cafes can operate during the lockdown so if you’re in the area, be sure to check it out for yourself.

Still somewhat of a hidden gem, Papakape along Ampere Street in Makati is a tiny cafe that serves various ginger-infused drinks.

The brainchild of father and son duo Rex and Manu Reyes, Papakape is a cafe that ticks all the boxes for a quintessential micro coffee shop, starting with a unique name, exciting drinks, and a charming ambiance. Their coffee bar is situated under a tiny glasshouse. It has plenty of natural sunlight that floods its counter. It was Manu’s father that wanted a structure that will not block the view of the sky. The coffee bar and dining area by the small garden with blue walls and cactus plants will remind you of Majorelle Garden in Marrakech.

Opened in the last quarter of 2020, Papakape is located in front of their home and is their garage.  There are seating areas composed of rustic tables and chairs in the small garden. The glasshouse and lush greenery merge to complement each other beautifully, creating a soothing atmosphere inside the cafe.

Other than standard coffee drinks, This cafe’s best-sellers are ginger-infused drinks, including Kape Gingerccino, Blue Ginger Salabat, Fruity Iced Salabat, and Chocolate Mochaluya. They also have seasonal offerings like Avocado Mocha, Calamansi Granita, Chocnut Crunch Chocolate, Spiced Strawberry Milk, and Lanka Affogato. Come September, they are set to release a Holiday Menu, so that’s something to look forward to.
